Meet your membership hosts:

Dahlia Dallal is the founding director of Literacy Partners, which uses the Science of Reading to create world-class professional development, grounding their methods in current research.

Dahlia’s passion for education has shaped her career from the start. Beginning in high school, she discovered her calling while working in a nursery school. After earning her degree in elementary education, she pursued a Master’s at Teachers College, Columbia University, refining her expertise in literacy.

Her teaching career at Merrick Unified School District led to a role as a staff developer with The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, where she trained educators nationwide. In 2011, Dahlia founded Literacy Partners to transform literacy practices across districts in California.

Melinda Warren holds an undergraduate degree in Political Communication and Education Policy from Emerson College and began her career teaching kindergarten in Dallas, TX. After moving to California, she helped to found second grade as a lead teacher at KIPP Iluminar Academy in East Los Angeles. There, she taught grades TK-2nd for five years, before becoming Dean of Students. In her role as Dean, Melinda developed and coached educators within TK to 4th grade and SpEd, as well as several instructional coaches.

Mercedes Jimenez is a first-generation college graduate, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Chicano/a Studies from the University of Los Angeles California. She then pursued her Masters of Bilingual Elementary Education along with her teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University. Mercedes began her career as a Kindergarten Apprentice Teacher at KIPP Iluminar Academy in East Los Angeles. She continued her journey there by founding third grade Science/Social Studies and working as a third-grade Lead Teacher for three years, going on to teach Fourth grade for three years as Grade Level Lead.

Originally from Sacramento, California, Lily Diamond's passion for reading and writing grew at a young age. After obtaining her degree in Art History from UC Berkeley in 2010, she became an educator. She went on to earn a Master of Education at Stanford University, where she was introduced to readers and writers workshop and deepened her understanding of the intersection between literacy and social justice.
Literacy instruction continued to be a bright spark and she was led to teach sixth grade in East Palo Alto. Later, she relocated to New York, where she taught elementary school, before finally heading back to the west coast and settling in Los Angeles.

Growing up in Los Angeles, Megan Jalil was always the kid walking around with her arms full of books, nestled into the corner of the public library, or writing poems on post-its and cafeteria napkins. While earning a degree from UCLA in English Literature and Education Studies, Megan dove into working in schools, giving her an opportunity to apply the theory and pedagogy she was learning to real classrooms across Los Angeles. After earning a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at Loyola Marymount University, Megan began teaching in West LA and helped lead the transformation of reading and writing instruction at her school site. After years of teaching, she transitioned into the role of instructional coach, supporting and developing teachers in TK through fifth grade. Megan is passionate about helping teachers feel knowledgeable and prepared as they help build young learners into lifelong readers and writers.

The LP teachers membership is available worldwide for educators, both teachers and administrators who want support in using an innovative, research based approach to teaching reading, writing, and phonics.

RENEW YOUR PASSION FOR TEACHING

"Learning about Writing Workshop and having to write the curriculum for my grade level this summer would have been impossible without the LP Teacher Membership.

The monthly videos are a great way to learn aspects of Reading and Writing Workshop. I often watched a video while I was writing parts of the curriculum to ensure I was including best practices and strategies for my grade level. I also learned more successful strategies for how to carry out book clubs in the classroom to continue expanding on my knowledge.

I can honestly say that it feels like I have personal mentors through my Literacy Partners Membership."
